Lydia Ko headlines a talent-rich field of 60 women players who hope to offer as scintillating a finish to this week’s Olympic golf event as the men provided on Sunday when Justin Rose won the gold medal on the 72nd hole.

The world No. 1 brings four LPGA Tour victories (including one of her two major titles) this season into the first women’s Olympic golf competition since the turn of the last century. She and her opening-rounds playing partners, Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist and Charley Hull of Great Britain — along with 57 other top golfers — seek to take home the gold in the summer games for the first time since Margaret Abbott of the U.S. did so in the Paris Olympics of 1900.

Ko, who has smashed about every “youngest-ever” record in the sport, could break even more new ground were she to stand atop the podium come Saturday evening (the women begin their quest for Olympic stardom on Wednesday).

Meanwhile, Hull and Nordqvist hope to follow in the footsteps of their male counterparts, countrymen Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson, who won the gold and silver medals, respectively.

As with the men, a Brazilian will get things going when Miriam Nagel hits the event’s first tee shot at 6:30 a.m. (ET) Wednesday.

In another notable threesome, second-ranked Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, fresh from her first major championship win at the Women’s British Open two weeks ago, takes on American Stacy Lewis and Sei Young Kim of the Republic of Korea at 9:58 a.m. World No. 3 Brooke Henderson draws Suzann Pettersen of Norway and fourth-ranked Lexi Thompson of the U.S. starting at 8:14 a.m.

Former world No. 1 Inbee Park has been out of action since early June with a thumb injury but she’ll give it a go this week when she joins Gerina Piller of the U.S. and Spain’s Azahara Munoz at 8:03 a.m.
