The 2017 Famers Insurance Open is here, and Tiger Woods is set to make his first official PGA Tour appearance in 18 months at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California.

Tiger is back! Here’s how to ignore your work and watch his return at Torrey Pines.

Woods had competed as recently as early December in the Hero World Chalenge in the Bahamas, where he finished third-to-last in that limited-field 17-man event. That was technically not an official PGA Tour start, but more of a silly season get-together. It did, however, have a pretty loaded group of players and Woods managed to lead the field in birdies. Of course, he also led it in double bogeys but there was more to be optimistic about than not since it was his first public showing in more than a year.
Now comes a full field PGA Tour event, one he knows well. Woods has won at Torrey Pines eight times, including his 2008 U.S. Open victory. But the field this year features strong competition, including Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snekeder, the defending champ, and Phil Mickelson, a 42-time PGA Tour event winner.
Tiger will tee off at 1:40 p.m. Thursday in a threesome that includes DJ and Day. They will play on the South Course in their first round, which is where all the TV cameras are primarily set up and three of the four rounds played take place. The first two days are split between the North and South courses. So Tiger will be a big focus of the Thursday Golf Channel TV coverage and then be the headliner on Friday for PGA Tour Live’s featured groups stream over on the North Course.
There is going to be a gap between Tiger’s first tee ball and the start of the coverage, an annoying inconvenience given that Tiger is largely all anyone wants to watch. He’s going a full 80 minutes before the TV window, but expect Golf Channel’s pregame shows to feature most of his shots to bridge that 80-minute gap. It’s frustrating but if they follow the same procedures from the Hero World Challenge, we should not miss much, if any, of Tiger’s opening round.
Update: PGA TOUR Live announced Thursday morning that they would stream the start of Tiger’s round on their service. You just need to buy a subscription.
