Masters 2017: Tee times, pairings for Saturday’s round at Augusta

Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth — together at last! The ageless wonder and heir apparent will play together in Saturday’s third round at Augusta.

That Jordan Spieth even made it to the weekend is a testament to the focus and determination of the 2015 Masters champ. But Spieth, 23, overcame a hideous quadruple bogey-9 on the 15th hole and a 4-over 75 in Thursday’s opening round with a second-round 69 to earn a 2:10 p.m. ET tee time, playing alongside 46-year-old Phil MIckelson.

While the youngster and veteran enter the weekend at even-par, Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler share the top of the leaderboard with 18-hole leader Charlie Hoffman and Masters rookie Thomas Pieters. Hoffman gets Garcia in the anchor match at 3 p.m., while Fowler takes on Pieters in the penultimate pairing at 2:50 p.m.

For Saturday’s third round, tee times are winnowed from threesomes to twosomes for the 53 players who made the cut. Jason Day, who snuck into the weekend by making the cut on the number, 6-over, will start things off at 10:20 a.m. ET. Given the uneven number of players entering third-round play, Day will likely draw Augusta member and marker extraordinaire Jeff Knox as his playing partner.

One of the more intriguing twosomes of the day will be 57-year-old Fred Couples, whose playing competitor, first-timer Jon Rahm (2:30 p.m.), was not even of this world when Freddie won his green jacket in 1992.

Rory McIlroy, whose clanged shot off the flagstick on the 18th hole probably cost him two shots (and perhaps the tournament), takes on Matt Kuchar at 2 p.m.

Here’s the full tee sheet for Saturday’s round, so getcher popcorn:
