The Masters is just 27 days away and we might be running headlong towards one of the best of all time. We’ve still got to sort through a few more tournaments, but it’s clear now Tiger Woods is back to being a competitive golfer. This week’s Valspar Championship was the first time we really lost our inhibitions and let it rip when Tiger moved into sole possession of the lead for a stretch on Friday morning. Twitter was aflame. Viewers watching on PGA Tour Live were manic. It was madness, the good kind, the kind we’d missed in recent years with Tiger on the shelf.

Woods fell off the lead with a bogey on his last hole, and then Canadian Corey Conners came out in the afternoon wave and fired another low number to take a two-shot lead. But Woods is still right there in the second-to-last tee time of the day, playing alongside Brandt Snedeker starting at 1:45 p.m. ET. By 6 p.m. Saturday night, we could be talking about Tiger sitting on a 54-hole lead with a final round final pairing tee time. The sports world would come unglued, even with brackets as your priority this weekend.

Tiger will play his entire third round inside the coverage window. The Comcast siblings of Golf Channel and NBC will split the coverage. There will be no coverage gap. These are the same teams and same production groups putting on the show. So there will be a few talent switches but it’s mostly a seamless, unnoticeable change from GC to NBC. Johnny Miller is still taking it easy, not ready to make his 2018 debut. It’s likely he will be back to his lead analyst role next week at Bay Hill but for now, Dan Hicks will have Gary Koch with him on Saturday.

There will be no special streams of the third round, beyond the basic simulcast streams of the TV coverage. Fortunately, that’s really all you need on Saturday. Tiger’s full round is during that TV window. The PGA Tour Live production, which often has featured groups streams on the weekend with the top names in the field, packed up and moved on and will have no weekend coverage. That’s a change from most events of the past two months. So this is your straightforward NBC/Golf Channel Florida swing deal.
