Paducah (29-6) held Bronte (33-4) to a mere 30 points to win the Division 2, Class 1A state championship Saturday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
Paducah Defeats Bronte 45-30 To Claim Texas Class 1A Division 2 Crown
After scoring 80 in the semifinal round, Bronte could not muster double digit points in any quarter.
Paducah exploded for a 19 points in the third to put the game out of reach.
Bronte’s fate was sealed behind the arc as Paducah hit 10 of 22 from long range.
Bronte managed just 4-26 from three point range.
Forward Andrew Hastings paced Paducah racking up 19 points, including six of 13 from deep.
Guard Lonnie Hurd contributed a double-double for Paducah with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Bronte guard Dakota Rawls contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort. He was the only Bronte player to score in double-digits.
Dakota and his brother Kerwin Rawls, sons of coach Rocky Rawls combined for six of 31 from the floor in the losing effort.
Paducah’s title is a family affair as two of head coach Jay Cantrell’s adopted son’s play on the team. The victory marks the school’s first state title in over two decades.
Bronte was looking for its first ever state title entering the game as the top-ranked team in its class.
