The second day of qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 is here. Two days of qualifying action set up the 100th running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and after Saturday’s action, the full field of 33 drivers is set. However, only nine of the drivers that advanced will get a chance to win pole position for the race.
Indy 500 qualifying 2016: Pole Day Sunday TV schedule, start time
Pole Day is here, which means we’re a week away from the Indianapolis 500.

The fastest nine racers will each get a chance to sit atop the pole and determine spots on the first three rows. Spots 10-33 will be set with another round of standard qualifying beginning Sunday at 2:45 p.m. ET. The Fast Nine shootout gets underway at 5 p.m. after the rest of the pack has been set.
Scott Dixon managed to win pole position for the 99th race a year ago, but he finished fourth in the race. Juan Pablo Montoya is the defending Indy 500 champion after winning from the outside of Row 5 a year ago. The last pole-sitter to win the race was Helio Castroneves, who did it in 2009.
The Indianapolis 500 will take place on Sunday, May 29 but first we’ve got this Sunday’s qualifying. Television coverage of Pole Day will be carried by ABC beginning at 4 p.m., though a live stream will also be available at WatchESPN.
