Andretti Autosport teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay and Townsend Bell collided on pit road in an incident that saw a loose tire nearly strike a crewmember of another team during Sunday’s Indianapolis 500.

A chain-reaction incident saw Townsend Bell spin and crash into teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay, damaging both cars.

Bell and Hunter-Reay had just completed their respective pit stops when Bell made contact with Helio Castroneves sending him spinning into Hunter-Reay, who then clipped a loose tire that narrowly missed hitting crewmembers of James Hinchcliffe’s team, who quickly scrambled out of the way.
All involved were uninjured. Bell and Hunter-Reay were able to continue, but each needed repairs and fell a lap behind the leaders.

The accident was especially frustrating for Hunter-Reay, who had asserted himself as the top contender Sunday. The 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner led a race-high 52 laps, and outside of pit stops never ran lower than second. Bell, who doesn’t race Indy cars regularly, led for 12 laps.
“We just screwed off this whole Indy 500,” Hunter-Reay radioed to his team.
