The Indianapolis 500 will get underway on Sunday, with Scott Dixon sitting on pole and leading a field of some of the best talent in all of motorsports. Dixon was the fastest in qualifying with an average speed of 232.164 mph, while defending champion Alexander Rossi qualified in third and will start on the first row.
2017 Indy 500: Green flag time, online streaming and more
The Indianapolis 500 is set for Sunday, and ABC will have the coverage. Here’s how you can watch.

Sunday’s race begins at 12 p.m. ET, with a green flag of approximately 12:17 p.m. The television coverage will be carried by ABC in the United States. An online stream will be available via WatchESPN as well.
Rossi was a surprise winner in 2016, starting from 11th. But his spot in the first row after qualifying is a good sign he could be in line for big things this year. Then again, pole-sitters haven’t won the race in some time, with the last five winners all starting outside of the top 10.
Ed Carpenter qualified second-fastest and will be on the front row. The second row includes Takuma Sato, Fernando Alonso and JR Hildebrand.
Alonso, a two-time Formula One world champion, is considered one of the best drivers in all of motor sports. But his currently Formula One team, McLaren-Honda, is struggling with severe engine issues this season. Alonso is their star driver, but he’s not competing at the highest level because of it.
That’s part of the reason Alonso is racing in the Indianapolis 500. He’s skipping the Monaco Grand Prix, which is also on Sunday, to fulfill a goal: to race in the biggest event in American open-wheel racing. Alonso is a rookie in IndyCar, but qualified in fifth on the grid, placing him on the second row.
