Gwen Jorgensen is headed to the 2012 Summer Olympics where she will represent the United States in the triathlon. That’s impressive by itself, but it’s even more impressive when you consider she only really began participating in the sport in 2010.
VIDEO: Meet U.S. Olympic Triathlete Gwen Jorgensen
A standout swimmer and runner while at the University of Wisconsin, Jorgensen was approached by USA Triathlon and decided to give it a try (ha!). She immediately found success. In 2010, she was named both the 2010 USAT Rookie of the Year and USAT Elite Duathlete of the Year, bolstered by her second-place finishes at the Pan American Championships and World University Triathlon Championships.
Jorgensen punched her ticket to the Olympics at the World Championship Series triathlon in London 2011, where she placed second, earning her a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic triathlon team.
In a video after the jump, Jorgensen speaks on her time at Wisconsin, her shift to triathlon, and her healthy rivalry with Minnesota.
