We didn’t watch the State of the Union tonight. HEY, WE’RE NOT BAD CITIZENS: WE HAVE A JOB WRITING ABOUT SPORTS AND WE WERE WORKING TONIGHT. So we were watching Michigan State-Iowa on ESPN, a foul-filled affair that ended up going into overtime.
President Obama wanted to watch Iowa-Michigan State before the start of the State of the Union
Barack Obama likes basketball, remember?
Also interested in watching that: a certain person who had quite a large stake in the State of the Union:
Told that in the Capitol hold room Obama wanted ESPN but said staff prefer he watch the filing in on C-SPAN ahead of #SOTU
— Luke Russert (@LukeRussert) January 29, 2014 Before the WHY IS THE PRESIDENT WATCHING SPORTS SHOULDN'T HE BE DOING HIS JOB crowd: he was about to give a big speech and wanted to watch something to relax, and the other option was watching the people he was about to give a speech to walking into a room while people talked about it. So it's not like there were vast matters of government at stake.
But yeah, it’s kinda funny that before his most-anticipated speech of the year, the president wanted to catch whatever was on ESPN. I guess he takes his March Madness bracket seriously.
