Peyton Manning broke Brett Favre’s record for most NFL career passing touchdowns Sunday night, throwing three touchdowns in the first quarter to reach 509 for his career. The ball is a keepsake Manning will probably keep in a prominent place on his mantle for his whole life ... if he can ever get it away from his receivers:
Broncos receivers play keepaway with Peyton Manning’s record-setting ball
You just set one of the most incredible records in NFL history! Oh, you want the ball? This one? This one right here? The one we’re playing with?

Manning’s Monkey in the Middle skills aren’t that impressive -- good thing he’s not a defensive back.
We had hoped this was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but our hopes were dashed by this tweet:
I can attest to this. RT @bylindsayhjones I'm 99 percent sure Manning and the WRs planned that keep-away celebration on Friday.
— Joan Niesen (@JoanNiesen) October 20, 2014 Never fear, though -- after all the tomfoolery the Pro Football Hall of Fame had someone on hand to make sure the record ball was well taken care of.
We’re not actually sure if Manning gets to end up with the ball or if it goes for permanent display in Canton.
UPDATE: Not only was the keepaway planned, it was rehearsed:
We've all been had. Demariyus Thomas said Peyton Manning himself planned the keep-away. Peyton had them practice it too.
