Rory McIlroy will have Niall Horan, fellow Northern Irishman and member of the group One Direction, as his caddie for the Par-3 Contest at the Masters on Wednesday:
Rory McIlroy’s new caddie is a member of One Direction
This is the first time in McIlroy’s career that his caddie might be a bigger star than he is.
"He's been excited to come here," McIlroy said with a smile. "He's never been to the Masters. I caught up with him in Australia at the end of last year and he was really excited, and I said, 'If you're available Wednesday afternoon and you want to carry the bag for nine holes, you're more than welcome.'"
The world’s No. 1 golfer is certainly a big star in the sports world, but he might be less popular than Horan, who is part of one of the world’s biggest boy bands.
Fortunately for McIlroy, the chances of anyone at Augusta having the slightest clue as to who Horan is are pretty low. Then again, there could be a lot of autograph requests that involve “could you sign this for my daughter, she’s a big fan.”
Tiger Woods will also be playing in the Par-3 Contest for the first time since 2004, with his two kids serving as his caddies.
