Oddsmakers expected a lot of points when Oregon played California on Friday, and the teams did not disappoint. The Ducks and Bears had already made some history, with the Vegas point total over/under set at 90 points, the highest since at least 1980. It went up after we published this list:
Oregon-Cal had the highest over/under since 1980 at 90 points and still hit the over
So. Many. Points.

That record total still wasn’t enough, as the teams hit the over, with Cal winning by 52-49 in overtime.
Early on, it seemed like the under was a sure thing. Late in the first quarter there were only seven points on the board. Cal led 14-0 after the first quarter. Then the offenses kicked into another gear.
It was 31-14 Cal at halftime, right on track to hit 90 points. The Ducks offense got rolling in the third quarter, pulling to within six of Cal 34-28 at the start of the fourth quarter. The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but even that wasn’t quite enough for the over.
With the game tied 42-42, Cal was lined up for a game-winning field goal. Then, #CollegeKickers happened and the Bears missed. It took only two plays of overtime for Oregon to score. The Ducks added the extra point and the over hit.
That, of course, was only the start of it. The Bears answered right back to make it 49-49. The Bears then tacked on a FG in the second overtime to cross the century mark with 101 points. Oregon was intercepted and that was that.
Some slow-paced college basketball games struggle to top 101 points. Not the Ducks and Bears. If we’ve learned anything, it’s always bet the over.
