Mike Tyson starred in a Super Bowl ad and almost no one saw it
Mike Tyson starred in a 30-second Super Bowl ad right before halftime and most of the country didn’t see it. I wasn’t even sure I saw it, because when I asked my co-workers in our group chat no one could confirm it.
But yeah, it’s real. I saw it because I live in Washington, D.C., and Michael and Son Services (a D.C. area home services company) bought a Super Bowl ad to air in several states on the East Coast.
The Washington Post has a great writeup about the local plumbing company with a Mike Tyson Super Bowl ad:
“I’m not a stupid businessman, I didn’t [grow up] with money and I don’t like to waste money,” said Mansour. “It’s far less than what people are going to think it costs.”
Springfield, Va.-based ESB Advertising shot the ad at the Sphinx Club, in the basement of a colorful, temple-like building on K Street Northwest. Extras were recruited off the street as business closed on a Thursday evening. {Disclosure: This reporter was one of the extras.] Mansour even negotiated language in the contract requiring Mike Tyson to post about the ad on his personal social media account.
That’s good business, but the story of *how* they got Tyson to do it is even better. Go read the whole story at WaPo.
