Cricket reporter Craig Cummings used a curious “light meter” over the weekend.

Telling the audience he was using a light meter, Cumming showed them a reading of 6.5 — clearly from the iPhone calculator. He then checked the other direction, without touching the phone and magically got the same reading.
New Zealand media are trying to play off Cumming’s meter as a “Kiwi cricket joke,” but the clip is already infamous in Australia where people don’t get the joke either.
Is this some giant metatextual commentary about the unfettered expansion of technology in sports — or did he just try to add some extra flavor to an otherwise boring report down on the field? Perhaps we’ll never know.
