Markelle Fultz is happy to be a Sixer because Philly has Chick-fil-A and Boston doesn’t

Derek Carr’s not the only athlete looking forward to spending his salary on Chick-fil-A. Markelle Fultz wrote an essay for The Players’ Tribune in which he introduces himself to Philadelphia and 76ers fans around the world. In his essay, he goes into detail about working out for the Sixers, trying out for the varsity team in high school and getting cut, and his new friendship with longtime process-truster Joel Embiid.

There was also one aspect Fultz touched upon that made it clear he’d be in good hands in Philadelphia: the many Chick-fil-A locations that exist in the city. After mulling over the possibility the Celtics might be drafting him Fultz writes:

Then Keith [Fultz’s trainer] hit me up and said, “New plan. Philly.”

I was just waking up. So I was like, “O.K., cool. Do they have Chick-fil-A there?”

A crispy chicken sandwich for breakfast. It’s kind of like my good luck charm. Keith never got back to me about that important question. So I found out for myself. I googled it immediately.

Philly does have Chick-fil-A. It has six, actually.

Seven if you count the one at the airport. Boston has zero Chick-fil-As, for what it’s worth.

When Fultz arrived at the Sixers’ facility, he was surprised that they brought over Chick-fil-A sandwiches for lunch. It left an impression on him — “And I know it’s not a big deal,” Fultz writes, “but a little part of me was thinking, ‘Respect. They did their research.’” It looks like Fultz and the Sixers are the perfect match. You can read more of his essay at The Players’ Tribune.
