With every NBA offseason comes basketball camp, a chance for young fans to learn about basketball from their favorite players. Sometimes it means people get to see players like Kevin Durant and Karl-Anthony Towns swatting the crap out of kids. Other times, it means players get to show off their heroics. NBA MVP Russell Westbrook had that chance on Friday. Here he is at his basketball camp, getting chants to shoot a half-court shot, and then delivering that promise:
Russell Westbrook gets ‘MVP’ chants from campers after making halfcourt shot

The fans went wild, and started chanting “M-V-P” after he made it, while Westbrook took a bow and did a little Hulk Hogan-esque hand-to-ear gesture toward the crowd. It’s a far cry from last year’s basketball camp, when a young fan played one-on-one against him and scored from half-court.
If the offseason is going to be a partial MVP tour for Westbrook, in the same way Klay Thompson had the time of his life in China after winning another championship, I’m all for it. Sometimes — just sometimes — the offseason is slightly better than the regular season.
