It’s been a big year for the sculpture of athletes. Or perhaps more aptly, a big year for really bad sculptures. Feast your eyes on this latest submission, a gold Conor McGregor residing in a backyard in Dublin.
This gold Conor McGregor statue belongs in the pantheon of horrible sports sculptures

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
Where do we begin with this?
- What’s going on with the cheekbones?
- Why does Conor look at least 20 years older?
- Why are his ears half the size of his head?
- What happened with the eyes? Seriously. Someone was proud enough of this to display it, but even they acknowledged that the eyes were too scary for the public so they covered them with spray-painted sunglasses. I need to know what those shades hide.
Let this statue stand as another example of bad-athlete sculpture. Let’s add it to the hall of fame, along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pierce.
