Earlier Monday, we learned that free agent infielder Juan Uribe was approaching a three-year contract agreement with the Dodgers worth $21 million. Now, via Ken Rosenthal, we find out than an agreement has been reached.
Juan Uribe, Dodgers Agree On $21 Million Contract
The only thing left between now and an official announcement is a physical exam, scheduled for Tuesday. Assuming all goes well and that there are no problems, Uribe’s now set through his age-34 season.
Uribe will join an infield currently manned by James Loney, Rafael Furcal, and Casey Blake. Though he’s a versatile player, Uribe will stick as the regular second baseman, at least in the short-term. The Giants, meanwhile, will be left to sort through the remaining available shortstop candidates, including Miguel Tejada and Jason Bartlett. There isn’t much out there, but then the team likely didn’t feel comfortable making such a big commitment to Uribe, who is on the wrong side of 30.
