We already knew that the Rangers and manager Ron Washington were getting set to work out a contract extension, as his previous contract signed prior to the 2007 season had expired. Now we have some further word: Washington and the Rangers have indeed come to agreement on a two-year contract extension that will keep the manager around through 2012.

There’s no word on any financial details, but Washington has presumably gotten himself a raise after leading the Rangers to the World Series for the first time in franchise history. The Rangers have seen their win total increase each season under Washington’s command, and though many often choose to question his strategic techniques, there is no questioning that he’s an effective leader of men who has that clubhouse’s complete control.
