After word spread of an impending deal on Wednesday, it’s all official now, as the Twins and Orioles have pulled off a J.J. Hardy trade that will send the shortstop to Baltimore.
J.J. Hardy, Brendan Harris Traded From Twins To Orioles For Jim Hoey, Brett Jacobson
Jon Morosi confirms that the Twins are sending Hardy, Brendan Harris, and $500,000 to the Orioles in exchange for Jim Hoey and Brett Jacobson. The 28-year-old Hardy became expendable for Minnesota when they got involved in negotiations with Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka, but he will get a chance to start at short in Baltimore, while Harris should serve as the team’s utility man.
Hoey is a nearly 28-year-old power righty reliever on the road back from shoulder surgery. Last year he posted strong strikeout numbers between AA and AAA. Jacobson is a 24-year-old righty reliever as well coming off a decent 2010 in A-ball. He is a long ways away, while Hoey could conceivably break camp with the team.
