Cubs’ Ryan Dempster Not Making October Plans Yet

Apparently, Ryan Dempster heard or read somewhere that the Cubs don't have a chance ...

“It’s perfect ... they already told me to book my tee times for October, all the experts,” pitcher Ryan Dempster said Wednesday. “I just went ahead and did that. I won’t have to worry about anything. Apparently, we won’t be playing in October, so that’s fine. Yep.”

Jeez, Ryan. Sensitive much?

Actually, his other comments were perfectly innocuous. He thinks his Cubs are pretty good, and 1) he should think that because he pitches for the Cubs, and 2) he might actually be right.

On paper, the Cubs are absolutely the fourth-best team in their division. But if you’re looking for the fourth-place team with the best chance to break through, the Cubs are it. There’s at least decent upside at almost every position, and they finished last season strong under new manager Mike Quade.

On paper, the Cubs are a .500 team. But they don’t play the games on paper yet, and sometimes those on-paper .500 teams will win seven or eight extra games and surprise you.

Just don’t look surprised when Ryan Dempster is around, else he might wound you with his barbs of sarcasm.
