From Big League Stew’s ’Duk:
A Year Later, Same Guys Fighting For Spot With Reds
↵
↵Hey, this spring's battle for the Cincinnati Reds' fifth starter spot looks awfully familiar.
↵And that's really because it should. Like 2010, righthander Mike Leake and lefthander Travis Wood are again squaring off for a berth in the Reds' rotation come April.
↵
↵This is just for show, right? So Wood has some motivation to work hard every day? Because Leake was just decent last season and Wood was outstanding. And Wood’s been a lot better this spring.
↵Mike Leake was a great story last spring, winning a job in the Reds’ rotation (ahead of Wood) despite having spent exactly zero time in the minors. But his strikeout rate suggests he’s marginal at best, while Wood might, right now, be one of Cincinnati’s two or three best pitchers.
