Rich Harden has been battling a lat injury all spring, and because of his history, nobody was very surprised when, on Monday, Harden seemed to have a setback, causing the A’s to shut him down and send him for an examination. “Rich Harden, hurt again?” everyone thought. “Why, that just can’t be!”
Rich Harden To Throw As He Comes Back From Lat Injury
Well, maybe this one isn’t so big of a deal. It turns out Harden is going to resume throwing on Wednesday. In his words, what he experienced wasn’t a setback; he just didn’t “feel ready to throw off a mound.” That isn’t a good thing, but it also isn’t an injury aggravation. It’s just Harden trying to proceed with caution to make sure he stays healthy.
Harden is what he is, and he’ll never be anything else. Nobody will be able to depend on Rich Harden. But the man’s still trying, he’s not badly hurt, and if he’s not ready to pitch come Opening Day, it looks like he’ll be ready soon after that. The A’s may yet be able to squeeze some innings out of a very talented but highly volatile arm.
