Joe Girardi Still “Experimenting” With Top Of Lineup

Joe Girardi's still fooling around with the top two hitters in his lineup. Wednesday, Derek Jeter led off and Brett Gardner batted second; Thursday, Girardi switched them. Chad Jennings (via lohud.com):

"We're trying it because of what (Gardner) did last year, and the problems that he causes for other teams," Girardi said.

Gardner led the Yankees in on-base percentage and stolen bases last season. Girardi said he will continue to experiment and has not settled on a definite lineup.

↵Joe Girardi seems like a pretty sharp guy. Sharp enough, one would think, to understand that there’s exactly nothing to be learned from an experimental lineup in the second half of March. He does know this, doesn’t he? I’m going to assume this is merely a master psychologist at work. Because the alternative is depressing.
