Friday Linkage
- My favorite part of Jim Margalus's blow-by-blow of the Boras-Reinsdorf Affair is when Scott Boras says, "I deal in facts." We'll probably revisit that contention when the Mets finally release Oliver Perez.
- Dave Cameron worries that Scott Rolen isn't famous enough for the Hall of Fame, and I worry that he's right, especially considering how tough the voters have traditionally been on third basemen. But the bigger issue is going to be the huge field of worthy candidates on the ballot when Rolen becomes eligible.
- Speaking of which, there's an essay on that very subject in Bill James's new book, Solid Fool's Gold. I'll probably have more about that one -- the first of two new Bill James books this spring -- after I finish, this week-end.
- My friend Rich Burk -- until so recently the Voice of the Portland Beavers -- has come up with something that is, I believe, completely new: He's time-traveled to 1947 and broadcast a World Series game between Joe DiMaggio's Yankees and Jackie Robinson's Dodgers. I love it when history goes down easy.
- Silly superstitions? Turns out they might actually help improve performance. Now, where did I leave my irrationality?
- The Captain's Blog has a nice look at the limitations of being a limited partner. Same writer, same blog, wonderful essay about Slim Love, about whom I should known already but didn't.
- Carson Cistulli casts FanGraphs: The Movie. Frankly, I have no idea if you'll find this even slightly amusing if you don't know some of these guys, personally. I should also point out that Carson didn't cast anyone as himself. So I'll just throw a name out there: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was so great in Airplane.
- Via the Magnet, The Baseball Project's Steve Wynn and Scott McCaughey choose their favorite baseball songs. I know and like all of their picks, but there are so many more out there! And I'm sorry to say we're still waiting for the perfect collection ...
