↵'The anticipated became official Monday morning when Royals manager Ned Yost announced right-hander Luke Hochevar will pitch the season opener March 31 against the Los Angeles Angels at Kauffman Stadium.

↵I mention this not because I used to live and die (and die, and die again) with the Royals, but because a pitcher with a 5.60 career ERA is given this honor. Realistically, Hochevar’s got some upside and is probably the best starter the Royals have. Which is one reason (there are others!) why you have to think this is going to be a long season, as the franchise waits for all those prospects to arrive.
