Not sure how I missed this, but last week MLB.com unveiled a recently unearthed instructional film, probably from 1924, that features Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, and Walter Johnson. It’s worth watching just because, but there’s a delicious extra nugget in there ... Cobb is famous for (among other things) his split-hands grip. When you see a photo of Cobb with the bat in his hands, there’s a good two or three inches between his hands. You might wonder how someone could hit the ball with real authority like that. I always have.
