Good news for Phillies fans. Shortly after pitcher Roy Oswalt left Wednesday’s Spring Training game against the Rays, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports that the ball that came off Manny Ramirez’s bat didn’t fracture anything.
Roy Oswalt Injury: X-Rays Negative After Line Drive To Neck
Oswalt got x-rays: they are negative.
Oswalt was unable to get out of the way of Ramirez’s line drive (you can see video here), and while it first appeared as though he may have been struck in the head, the injury appears to be a bruised neck. Zolecki notes that Oswalt never felt dizzy or lost consciousness.
We still don’t know whether this will impact Oswalt’s first regular-season start, or even how severely bruised the neck is. The 33-year-old right-hander came to Philadelphia in a mid-season trade last year and immediately pitched light-out baseball, posting a 1.74 ERA in 82.2 innings.
