I don’t write book reviews anymore, for two reasons: 1) they’ve brought me little but grief, and 2) no one has asked me recently. Even if I did review books, I couldn’t review Jonah Keri’s book -- The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took a Major League Baseball Team from Worst to First -- because he’s a good friend. What I can do is link to reviews by other people; for example, Baseball America’s James Bailey:
Jonah Keri’s New Book About Rays Hits Stores Today
↵↵What Keri does particularly well in “The Extra 2%” is provide a broad view of the many challenges that confront a small-market front office, even aside from the obvious ones such as building a roster. He captures the entire arc of the organization’s history, hitting both the often-entertaining lows of the Naimoli era and the inspiring highs of recent seasons.
↵↵I think that graf sort of nails it, and I’ll add that Jonah really did his homework. I’ve spent a great deal of time with the book already -- it’s officially in stores and available for download, etc., today -- and it carries my highest endorsement.
