Earlier, we told you that the Brewers planned on activating outfielder Corey Hart from the disabled list on Wednesday. Well, that was their plan. Then, during pregame batting practice on Tuesday, bench player Erick Almonte was hit in the face by an errant baseball.
Corey Hart Activated, Erick Almonte Placed On Concussion DL
Almonte was evidently showing some signs of a concussion, so the Brewers placed him on the league's new seven-day concussion disabled list. And, to replace him, the team has activated Hart a day early. Hart didn't get himself into the starting lineup, with Mark Kotsay playing right field, but Hart should be in there on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Almonte is 3-29 on the year with one long home run. He has filled in at first base and right field. He isn’t expected to be out for very long, but with injuries of this potential nature, you can never be sure. Of course, the Brewers would rather have a healthy Hart and an injured Almonte than a healthy Almonte and an injured Hart. Not to sound callous.
