2013 MLB Draft results: Pick Nos. 65-68

The second round of the 2013 MLB Draft closed with the Washington Nationals’ first pick. Of course, they selected a pitcher with a 99 mph fastball.

No. 65: C Victor Caratini, Atlanta Braves

ESPN’s Keith Law had Caratini as his No. 92 overall player, and called him “a strong third baseman with good feel to hit.” Baseball America had him at No. 124, and said “if he goes out in the first five rounds, it will be as a backstop.”

No. 66: 2B Gosuke Katoh, New York Yankees

Baseball America called Katoh “the rare high school second baseman who’s a legitimate pro prospect.” Katoh showed surprising power in his senior year.

No. 67: 3B Kevin Franklin, Cincinnati Reds

Baseball America on Franklin:

“His right-handed raw power rates as a 60 or 65 on the 20-80 scouting scale... His ability to hit for average is more of a question mark.”

No. 68: RHP Jake Johansen, Washington Nationals

Baseball America on Johansen:

“For a guy who can dial up a 99 mph fastball, Johansen doesn’t make a huge impression on batters or scouts.”
