After having to wait one whole Major League Baseball season without a championship, the San Francisco Giants are back on top after winning Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Now, it’s time for their long-suffering fans to party.

The Giants’ championship parade is expected to trudge through 1½ miles of downtown San Francisco in conditions that are being described as potentially “uncomfortable,” according to the National Weather Service (via the San Jose Mercury News). That probably won’t stop a crowd that organizers anticipate could reach 1 million on Halloween.

The festivities begin at noon PT and are expected to last two to three hours, regardless of what the weather holds. Heavy congestion is likely, so city officials have provided advice to the public, courtesy of the Mercury News:

Don’t drive there -- unless you want to go slower than the vehicles in the parade and be stuck without a place to park. BART will be running its maximum rush-hour service all day and will have 100 extra employees on hand -- and for those staying for some late-night happy times, will extend service until 2 a.m. Caltrain will have extra capacity on its regular northbound morning commute, and after the shindig is over, will start firing off southbound trains as soon as each one fills up, and they will make every stop en route to San Jose.

The parade will begin at Steuart and Market and will proceed west on Market before turning onto McAllister. The route will commence at City Hall.
