A pair of blowouts and a long rain delay highlighted the third day at the Little League World Series on Saturday, and we saw four teams eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.

The team from Reynosa, Mexico stayed alive with a 13-0 victory over the Europe-Africa region squad from Emilia, Italy. Saul Soto went 4-for-4 in the win for Mexico, who will next play on Monday afternoon.

On the United States side of the bracket, the Mid-Atlantic team from New Jersey bounced back from its opening loss with a 15-5 win over the Great Lakes team from Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

New Jersey broke open a close game with a nine-run fourth inning, including two home runs in the frame by Chris Cartnick.

The later games were impacted by a rain delay of almost two hours, but that didn’t stop the kids from finding a fun way to pass the time.

The Dominican Republic, representing the Caribbean, held off a comeback effort from Australia, who battled from 8-2 down to within a run in the sixth inning, but ultimately fell 8-7.

The four teams eliminated on Saturday will still get to play one more game in Williamsport, with consolation games scheduled for both Monday and Tuesday.

Saturday scores

Game 9: Mexico 13, Europe-Africa 0

Game 10: Mid-Atlantic 15, Great Lakes 5

Game 11: Caribbean 8, Australia 7

Game 12: Northwest 4, Midwest 3
