Colorado Rapids vs. Houston Dynamo: Final score 2-0, Dynamo lose away again

The Rapids topped the Dynamo 2-0 on Saturday, putting doubt in Houston’s mind about whether they can win away as they get ready for a playoff road game.

The Houston Dynamo hoped to use Saturday's regular season finale to get some sort of confidence on the road, where they have struggled, and the Colorado Rapids seemed to provide the perfect team to do that against. But not even Colorado could cure Houston's ills as they lost 2-0 to send them to the playoffs still reeling away from BBVA Compass Stadium.

Kamani Hill put the Rapids in front within 10 minutes with a good shot from 20 yards. Colorado struck in transition and exploited a big gap between the Houston defense, which Hill ran into and when no defender stepped up to him, he fired hard and low to beat Tally Hall.

Even when down a goal and needing to get forward, the Dynamo never looked like they were in the match. They struggled to create chances or even keep the ball. Their defending was adequate, but hardly inspiring and the Rapids bossed the match. A 76th minute goal by Andre Akpan put the match to bed and secured a deserved win for Colorado.

The Dynamo are now winless on the road since July 28. That’s especially bad news considering that they open the playoffs on Wednesday at Chicago, where a loss will end their season.
