Matt Hamill was the first pick by Tito Ortiz on The Ultimate Fighter and the two met in a student vs. teacher fight at UFC 121. Hamill is very much like the "modern version" of Ortiz, a great wrestler who has developed a decent game but really is at his best on top landing strikes and that's what he did in the second and third rounds of the fight.

Ortiz looked like a suddenly dynamic striker to open the fight, landing head kicks, body kicks, jabs and trying spinning backfists. SB Nation scored the first round to Ortiz even though Hamill has his moments where he found a home for the right hand. It wouldn’t last for Ortiz as in the second and third rounds Hamill got the takedown and used punches and elbows to bust up “the teacher.”
The judges scored the fight 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 all for Matt Hamill who gets a very big win.
