UFC 119 Results: Sean Sherk Wins Close Decision Over Evan Dunham

Evan Dunham closed out his fight with Sean Sherk looking like the much fresher fighter and dominated the third round with great striking. Unfortunately for him two of the three judges had already scored the first two rounds for Sherk.

Sherk controlled the first round with takedowns and landed a hard elbow that opened a very nasty cut over Dunham’s right eye. It was a classic “Muscle Shark” round for Sherk who was coming off an 18 month layoff. He appeared to be on pace to control the fight as he did more of the same for the majority of the second round, but at the end of the second frame it was Dunham who opened up with some serious striking flurries. To this observer it appeared that Sherk was landing inside punches and doing the better work in those exchanges but Dunham’s work was certainly eye opening.

The final round saw Dunham land a hard kick that stunned Sherk but he was unable to close the fight out. Dunham was relentless for the final frame though as he threw kicks, punches and knees non-stop. It was a strong statement but in the end wasn’t enough.

The judges scored the bout 29-28 Sherk, 29-28 Dunham, and 29-28 Sherk. SB Nation also scored the bout 29-28 Sherk.
