Conor McGregor experienced a brief bump in his bid for holding two titles in the UFC when he fell to Nate Diaz, but after successfully beating him in the rematch, the featherweight champion now has his sights set on lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez once again.
UFC 205: McGregor vs. Alvarez is set for Saturday and will take place at the storied Madison Square Garden in New York City, a first for the UFC due to the fact that mixed martial arts was outlawed in the state for so long. The preliminary card will be available on television and online, via UFC Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1, with the main card available via pay-per-view.
Online streams of the whole night will be available on mobile devices, computers and game consoles via the various UFC apps and YouTube.
But Alvarez and McGregor are just the headliners, and two other titles will be on the line Saturday. Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will defend his belt against Stephen Thompson, and women’s strawweight title holder Joanna Jedrzejczyk will face Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
The preliminary card features some very big names, headlined by a bout between Frankie Edgar and Jeremy Stephens just before the pay-per-view begins. But the preliminary card starts at 6:30 p.m. ET with a fight between Liz Carmouche and Katlyn Chookagian. Then Tim Boetsch will face Rafael Natal and Thiago Alves will take on Jim Miller before the FOX Sports 1 portion kicks off at 8 p.m.
That card will include a match between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Michael Johnson in addition to the aforementioned Edgar/Stephens fight.
Chris Weidman and Donald Cerrone are also well-known fighters on the main card. The card is certainly one of the biggest the company has ever put together. It may even be the greatest, and some think it’s not even close. McGregor and Alvarez were supposed to fight once already, and McGregor’s loss to Nate Diaz has done little to quell the excitement for the fight.
