Jamie McMurray Stays On Top, But Ryan Newman Closes In After Dover

Jamie McMurray’s lead in the “Best Of The Rest” Cup standings shrunk after his 13th-place finish at Dover, allowing Ryan Newman to close to within 20 points.

AJ Allmendinger also made a big move after a top-10 finish, as did Joey Logano (23rd to 6th) and Paul Menard (16th to 7th).

Logano finished third at Dover, leading a non-Chase contingent of four drivers in the top 10.

It’s worth noting that the “Best Of The Rest” Cup is currently more competitive than the Chase (Denny Hamlin leads Jimmie Johnson by 35 points in the main event).

Remember, this is how it works: We took all of the non-Chase drivers and reset their points at zero before New Hampshire, then awarded 10 bonus points per regular season win.

Whatever points they collect during the race, they earn here. Can anyone knock off McMurray at Kansas?
