NASCAR Driver’s Home ‘Severely Damaged’ In Tornado Outbreak

NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Eric McClure’s home was among the many damaged by Wednesday night’s terrifying tornado outbreak across the South, McClure tweeted.

McClure, who lives in Abingdon, Va. (near the Tennessee border), tweeted during the storm and again afterward that his home was “wrecked.”

@ericmcclure: Still in basement. House was hit by the first tornado. Damage uncertain. A lot of praying...

An hour later, McClure posted an update that said his family’s home was “severely damaged” but that he was still waiting to see the extent of it.

After that, the news wasn’t good:

@ericmcclure: Thx 4 prayers. Moved 2 Dads: House is wrecked; hiding place and most of house flooded. Severe damage to roof, sides, well the whole inside :). Everyone safe. God good.

@ericmcclure: I was ok until Mabreigh said “Daddy, tomorrow when its daylight you can fix my swingset and the porch. You have tools in the garage .” Then I got sad

We’re glad McClure is safe, but obviously, our hearts go out to his family and anyone who was affected by Wednesday’s tornado outbreak. The Johnson City (Tenn.) Press reported a dozen fatalities in the northeast Tennessee/southwest Virginia area.

If you’re interested in keeping up with McClure, you can see all of his updates here.
