Carl Edwards flew to New York on last-minute notice this week to make an appearance on the popular Live With Regis and Kelly program – and represented NASCAR well in the process.
Carl Edwards Says ‘Regis And Kelly’ Appearance Was A ‘Fun Time’
Edwards, who co-host Regis Philbin introduced as a “backflipping, crowd-pleasing, no-nonsense driver,” joked with Philbin and Kelly Ripa about tearing up his race car after the All-Star Race.
The Roush Fenway Racing driver good-naturedly – and patiently – answered questions from Philbin and Ripa such as “Do the cars smell bad after the races?” and “How is it possible that you ran out of gas in the race?”
On Friday, Edwards told reporters he received a call on Monday afternoon about being on the show Wednesday and thought, ‘Well, sure – that sounds like fun.’ He brought his mom and mother-in-law – a Regis and Kelly fan – to New York City with him.
“They are really nice people,” he said of Philbin and Ripa. “The coolest thing about that show is when the camera shuts off, nothing changes. They are the same folks and they were interacting with the crowd a bunch and having a lot of fun.”
Edwards also interacted with singer Marc Anthony – husband of Jennifer Lopez – who told Edwards he was a big race fan and was good friends with Jeff Gordon.
“I never would have guessed that,” Edwards said. “He knew all about NASCAR and was pumped to get to talk about it a little bit. It was a good experience overall. I hope we go back.”
