Dale Earnhardt Jr. continued his 2011 career revival on Sunday, recording a sixth-place finish at Pocono Raceway that marked his best performance at the “Tricky Triangle” since a fourth-place result in 2008.

“I’m real happy with where I finished,” Earnhardt Jr. said afterward. “On the last restart of the race, we were 18th with 30 to go. And we drove back up to sixth, so I’m real happy about that.”
Earnhardt Jr., who is third in the Sprint Cup Series point standings but only 10 markers out of the No. 1 spot, said he struggled with handling during the middle portion of the race but felt his car was “pretty good overall.”
“We had good speed all weekend,” he said. “And hopefully when we come back we’ll have good balance again.”
The sixth-place finish was the first time he’d finished better than 19th at Pocono in the last two seasons – a result which did not go unnoticed by the driver.
"I'm really happy to be running well and being up front," he said. "It's surely a difference from the last couple of years, so I feel fortunate and feel lucky to be able to compete."
