This weekend’s race from Kansas Speedway marked the final event of the 2011 NASCAR season for FOX, and according to numbers released by the network, more viewers were tuning in to see their covereage.
FOX NASCAR Broadcasts Have Largest One-Year Increase In Viewers In 11-Year History
The first 13 races of the season saw viewership on FOX rise nine percent from an average of 7.9 million viewers in 2010 to 8.6 million in 2011. The average was also the highest number in three years for the network. The rise was the single largest increase from one year to the next in the 11 year history of broadcasting NASCAR races on FOX.
In addition to the rise in average viewers, FOX’s broadcast also saw ratings for males 18-34 years of age rise 20 percent over 2010. While that was the largest increase, FOX did see increases across the board with every major male and adult demographic. The 2011 NASCAR on FOX season averaged a 5.0/11 household rating/share, a four percent rise over 2010.
Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway ended the season for FOX with a 3.9/10, reaching 6.3 million viewers, according to Nielson. While this was the first Kanas race shown on FOX, the ratings were up 63 percent on household rating/share and up 67 percent on average audience over last year’s race shown on ESPN.
