The crew chief silly season continued Monday afternoon when Richard Childress Racing announced Todd Berrier has been replaced as the crew chief on Jeff Burton’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet. Team engineer Luke Lambert has been named the interim crew chief.
Todd Berrier Out As Jeff Burton Crew Chief At Richard Childress Racing
“Todd has been an important part of RCR’s success for many years,” team owner Richard Childress said. “He is still employed and under contract and his role with RCR will be determined in the near future.”
The No. 31 team has struggled for much of the 2011 season, scoring no top-10s and sitting in 25th in the season standings.
“Luke will be the interim crew chief until further notice,” Childress said. “He has a strong grasp of the job requirements and an established line of communication with Jeff (Burton) so we have every confidence that he will do a great job.”
Lambert has never been a crew chief in the Sprint Cup Series and has served as a team engineer with the No. 31 team since 2008.
“I’m honored that Richard and Jeff have the confidence in me to lead the Cat Racing team,” Lambert said. “This is a talented group of guys who know what it takes and has been successful so there’s no reason to think we can’t be successful moving forward.”
