Kenny Powers To Be Featured On NASCAR Nationwide Series Car At Daytona

So this is happening: HBO’s Eastbound and Down will sponsor a NASCAR Nationwide Series car – the No. 50 driven by T.J. Bell – in Saturday’s DRIVE4COPD 300 race at Daytona International Speedway.

And in true Kenny Powers fashion, Bell’s MAKE Motorsports team is going all-out with the paint scheme, as you can see in the pictures below the jump.

The car features some recognizable images from the popular comedy series, such as Powers’ prized jet ski, and has a purple and leopard-print design.

Of course, it also features Powers’ face – and epic mullet – right on the hood.

The following quote was attributed to Powers himself in a press release distributed by the team:

”The name and likeness of Kenny Powers have long been associated with victory and success. It’s pretty obvious why somebody would want to put a giant picture of my face on a tastefully decorated stock car.

“Best of luck to our driver, T.J. Bell. If he doesn’t win first place at Daytona, they must not have made that picture of my face big enough.”

There was no mention whether Powers himself – er, Danny McBride, who convincingly plays Powers in the show – would make an appearance at Daytona. Fans of the show know the baseball player was last seen pitching for the Myrtle Beach, S.C. minor league team – the Mermen – in Sunday night’s Season 3 premiere.

So why MAKE Motorsports? One reason could be the team’s owners are natives of Shelby, N.C. – which, of course, is Powers’ hometown.

MAKE Motorsports, though, is the NASCAR equivalent of the Charros, the struggling Mexican League team Powers played for in Season 2. Despite the awesome sponsorship, the team is not expected to contend for the win on Saturday.
