Dale Earnhardt Jr. will soon have a new sponsor, according to his car owner, Rick Hendrick.

Hendrick Motorsports is close to securing additional sponsorship for Dale Earnhardt Jr., Rick Hendrick said in an interview Wednesday.

In an interview with “The Morning Drive” on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Wednesday, Hendrick said he is close to reaching an agreement with an undisclosed company to sponsor the No. 88 car. He said the deal has yet to be finalized because both parties would like to see the sponsorship extend across multiple seasons.
“We have several good opportunities here, and we’re working on a deal that we will another here pretty quick,” Hendrick told Sirius XM. “We’re not in any hurry because we’re trying to put together multiple years.
“We’re trying to get multiyear deals put together instead of one-off races.”
NASCAR’s most popular driver entered the season without sponsorship for 13 races after Pepsi Corp., through its Diet Mountain Dew and Amp Energy brands, scaled back its involvement. Army National Guard sponsors Earnhardt in 20 races.
This past weekend at Daytona was supposed to be the first race where Earnhardt would be unsponsored, but Hendrick Motorsports placed the National Guard on the No. 88 car instead.
Hendrick’s rough timeline of announcing a new sponsor in “two to three weeks” would coincide with the race weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. NASCAR’s second biggest event is typically the site of sponsorship announcements for the following season.
