Bowman Gray Stadium is a quarter-mile short track located inside a football stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. It is one of NASCAR’s legendary venues and has hosted stock car races since 1949.
Racing fight ends with wild ride
Bowman Gray Stadium is nicknamed “The Madhouse” and the legendary short track more than lived up to its name this past weekend.
As a byproduct of the tight confines, Bowman Gray produces close racing that frays emotions and frequently escalate to brawls. Consequently, the track is appropriately nicknamed “The Madhouse,” and was the backdrop for a History Channel television show of the same name.
In a local race Saturday night, another chapter was added to Bowman Gray’s notorious reputation.
After being involved in a wreck, Mike Robertson sought out Derek Stoltz to seek revenge. Robertson attempted to climb through the passenger side window to get at Stoltz, who was having none of it and drove away.
Robertson, however, was still hanging in the car. And because this is “The Madhouse,” Stoltz naturally decided to drive Robertson into the wall.
