Ty Dillon moving to Nationwide Series in 2014

Ty Dillon will drive the No. 3 car in the Nationwide Series for Richard Childress Racing beginning in 2014.

Richard Childress is moving grandson Ty Dillon full-time to the Nationwide Series in 2014, where he will drive the No. 3 car for Richard Childress Racing.

Dillon will take over the seat currently occupied by his older brother Austin Dillon, with partial sponsorship in eight races from Yuengling Light Lager.

“I’m honored to be able to represent an iconic brand such as Yuengling,” Ty Dillon said in a statement. “I’m excited to share my first full year in the Nationwide Series with them as they venture into the sport for the first time this season.”

The team release did not state Austin Dillon’s future plans, though it is expected that he will move full-time to the Sprint Cup Series in a No. 3 car fielded by RCR. Dillon filled in this past weekend for Tony Stewart at Michigan International Speedway, where he finished 14th after an early race spin.

Ty Dillon has spent the last two seasons in the Truck Series, where he is currently fourth in points, the same position he finished a year ago. In eight Nationwide starts, he has a career-best finish of third coming last year at Indianapolis.
