DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is on Twitter and all it took for him to join the social media platform was a victory in the Daytona 500.

Long opposed to the social media platform, Dale Earnhardt Jr. is now on Twitter having sent his first tweet after winning the Daytona 500.

Fresh off his second triumph in NASCAR’s biggest race, Earnhardt sent out his first tweet at 2:32 a.m. ET. It was a selfie of him standing in Victory Lane alongside the trophy awarded to the Daytona 500 champion.
“Tonight seemed like as good a night as any to join Twitter,” he tweeted. “How is everyone doin?”
That Earnhardt joined Twitter isn’t much of a surprise. He joked prior to the Daytona 500 that he would begin tweeting if he won the Great American Race. The account had already been established, and had more than 230,000 followers without Earnhardt ever sending one tweet. And following his win late Sunday night, he was asked during his post-race press conference if he would fulfill his promise. “I got to get my password,” Earnhardt said jokingly.
Not too long afterward Earnhardt did just that and sent the tweet heard around the world.
