NASCAR race day weather forecast for Martinsville Speedway: Will it be dry enough to race?

Weather forecast for the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway has been calling for rain on Sunday. There is the possibility of a dry window to get some racing complete, but will it be enough?

Chance of rain showers remain in the weather forecast for Sunday’s Goody’s Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway. This is not a washout in my opinion as I expect there to be a window of opportunity for racing. With sunset at 5:22 p.m. ET (it’s an hour earlier thanks to the end of daylight saving time) any delay because of weather Sunday afternoon would make the likelihood of a complete race less and less with each possible delay.

Expect rain showers through the morning across the area. By midday and the afternoon, there should be more dry time than wet over Martinsville Speedway with most of the rain activity to the south and east. But given the close proximity rain showers are possible during the afternoon.

The odds of NASCAR getting the cars on the track and racing is around 60 to 65 percent.

The odds of a race to halfway are around 60 to 65 percent.

The odds of a complete race Sunday is around 45 to 55 percent and grows less and less if there are multiple delays because of weather or any other issues.

This is not a slam-dunk forecast, and I am not going to lie that I am a little nervous of all the scenarios. Most of what I am seeing gives NASCAR a window to go racing during the afternoon before it gets dark at Martinsville Speedway but I am not going to rule out the possibility of rain during the race.
